St. Nicholas Albanian Orthodox Church commissioned a mosaic to be inset at the base of the altar, the site of Communion and blessing within the church. The red, gold, and black medallion brought together the two-headed eagle of the Albanian independence movement with the traditional Chi-Rho of the Orthodox church to create a symbol of the church’s revival following state persecution in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The mosaic was blessed at installation by local priests and bishops, and continues to inspire parishioners daily.
